How to find House Alarm Codes for our new home?
Not sure if anybody could help me, but I am just wondering what would be the best way to go about this.
We closed on our new home last Tuesday and the house has an alarm. We have not hooked up the system yet, but we need to turn it off. We tested the smoke detector last night and that triggered the alarm. It would not shut off, it kept telling us there was a fire. So, my fiance ripped the wire out of the wall temporarily in fears of disturbing our new neighbors.
We tried to deactivate the fire warning, but we don’t have the proper code. The previous owner did not leave a manual or the code in case of anything. Should we call our real estate agent so they can contact the seller’s agent to find a code? The alarm company couldn’t help us.
Thanks for your help…hopefully somebody else had this same problem and they can suggest to me what to do.
I had the same problem, you have a few options.
If you plan to have the security system monitored, select your monitoring co. and call them, they can send some one out to reprogram your system.
Take note of your security systems make and model number, then use it in a google search for programming instructions. I did this, after quite a bit of searching I found the technicians installation and programming instructions. With that I was able to reprogram a new master code and set new entry and exit codes as I only wanted the use of the alarm, not the monitoring service
Or you can locate the alarm panel, Usually a gray steel box located in a closet, they commonly have a battery inside the box and a little wall transformer plugged into a 110vt outlet. Unplug the battery, then unplug the transformer (the transformer usually has one screw holding it securely into the outlet, un screw it first) . This should cut all power to the system, therefore turning it off.
You could also post the make and model number here and you may find someone who knows the procedure to reset your master code for your system.
